REGISTER NOW for OES Enrichment Classes Before Registration Closes on January 23rd!!

The Oakton PTA is excited to offer before and after school classes for Oakton students. An easy, safe, convenient way for your child to explore a new hobby, dive deeper into a developing passion, or hang out with friends after school in a fun, structured environment!

Whether you are looking for arts, drama, arts and crafts, technology, science or hobbies, there’s something here for everyone.

Check out just some of the cool classes your student can take this session:

  • Monday: 8:15-9:00 a.m. – Yoga (K-6);  4-5:00 p.m. – 3D Game Programming (1-4), Tennis (K-2), Artistic Drawing with Young Rembrandts (1-6);  6-7:15 p.m. – Okinawan Karate (2-6)

  • Tuesday: 8-9:00 a.m. – Chess Club (2-6); 4-5:00 p.m. – Fencing for Young Jedi II (K-6), Knitting with Ms. Seago (K-6)

  • Wednesday: 8-9:00 a.m.-Coed Hip Hop (K-6); 4-5:00 p.m.; Love the Ball Multi Sports (1-6), Pottery Around the World (K-6), Guitar with Mr. Renne (2-6)

  • Thursday: 4-5:00 p.m.; Afterschool Art Open Studio (2-6), Basketball Academy (3-6), Little Hoops Academy (K-2)

  • Friday: 8-9:00 a.m. – Dodgeball & Flag Football (K-6); 4-5:00 p.m. – Coder Kids App Builder: Web Master (3-6); Video Game Builder: Video Game Maker: (K-2)

For Knitting with Ms. Seago: 

Knitting with Ms. Seago and friends (2-6) – Beginners to advanced are welcome! Parents are welcome, too! Feel free to email Ms. Seago if you have any questions (caseagoblant@fcps.edu)

Cost: 9 sessions $110 – Tuesdays, 4 to 5:00 p.m. – February 5th, 12, 19th and 26th; March 12th, 19th,  and 26th; April 2nd, 9th and make update on April 23rd.

For Guitar with Mr. Renne:

Bring your guitar and learn the basics of guitar playing in this introductory course (2-6)!  We will learn notes, basic chords, and even a couple of rock songs!  Acoustic guitars only please!  Please bring our own guitar and drop it off at Mr. Renne’s class.   Feel free to email Mr. Renne with any questions ( jdrenne@fcps.edu).

Cost: 10 sessions $125 – Wednesdays, 4 to 5:00 p.m. – February 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th; March 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th; April 3, 10 and make up date on April 29th.

Special Author Event at Fairfax Barnes & Noble

Thursday, January 24th @ 6pm

Event Details:

The event is free. However, anyone who wishes to enter the signing line and meet Mr. Paolini must purchase a copy of the book from Barnes & Noble.  Wristbands to enter the signing line will be given out at 4pm.  Mr. Paolini will personalize all copies of The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm.  He will also sign copies of backlist titles – straight signature only.   Photos may be taken of the event and Mr. Paolini as he signs but he will not pose for photos.

Important Variety Show News: GROUP ACTS, TECH/STAGE CREW, and ART CREW SIGN UPS OPEN NOW!!

Variety Show 2019 –  “The Greatest Show”

Time to Sign Up for GROUP ACTS, 6th Grader TECH/STAGE CREW and ART CREW

We have a wonderful slate of Individual Acts and Emcees for our show.  NOW its time to add the finishing touches.  We are offering many different GROUP ACTS, as well as 6th Grade TECH/STAGE CREW and ART CREW to create our back drop.  Please sign up for a group that interests you using the link provided below.

  • Group Acts will begin rehearsals the week of January 14th and meet weekly.

  • Tech/Stage/Art Crews will begin meeting in February.

All performers and Tech/Stage Crew must be available for the following mandatory rehearsals and performances: 

  • March 25th, 26th and 27th 4-6 PM

  • March 28th and 29th PERFORMANCES at 7 PM

Anyone Interested in Auditioning for the 2018-19 Variety Show!! 

EMCEE AUDITIONS:  CONCLUDED

INDIVIDUAL ACT AUDITIONS: 

 Individual Act auditions will take place Dec. 11th – 13th.  Please sign up for a timeslot HERE.

Individual acts are primarily conceived and rehearsed at home with a parent sponsor. There may be several people in your act, but it must be accepted into the show through this weeks auditions and primarily rehearsed on your own. We will have check ins with Individual Acts periodically at Oakton before or after school, but most practicing is on your own time.

GROUP ACTS:

There are NO AUDITIONS for Group Acts. 

Group acts started at OES five years ago and have become very popular for kids that may want more guidance. Students will sign up via a Sign Up Genius that will go out on or about Dec. 18th and be registered for a group of their choosing (e.g., dance, bucket drums, singing) until all slots for that group are full.  Rehearsals for Group Acts will meet weekly at OES either before or after school with our Variety Show volunteers.
